About Me

Hey there, I'm Beata Star, the mind behind the madness. You can call me Bea. Wyrd Sistxrs is my brainchild, born from more than ten years of deep self-exploration, devotional practise, and cultural imagining.

My childhood home was filled with unfelt grief, aggression and bullying. I spent my life trying to understand my own and others pain as though if I cut it up and put it neatly into boxes I might never have to feel it. I studied psychology to make sense of my relational dysfunction, assuming it was me who was wrong and not the relationships.

Well-meaning but ill-advised, my investigations barely scratched the surface of the well of torment that lay beneath until one day it broke me completely. The pain felt by generations of people bled through and fried my brain like an egg, as Tyson Yunkaporta would say. Slowly, I learnt to filter through that mess by reprogramming my brain using symbols, synchronicities, and psychological principles.

Miraculously, by interweaving this approach with witchcraft and shamanic practises, and indigenous wisdom, I rediscovered the untapped potential of the human brain that our ancestors knew but we have forgotten and suppress with mind-numbing medication, afraid to trust our body's healing potential and human process. Gradually, I weaved this magic and recovered myself from trauma. Now I guide others as they retrieve these lost arts for themselves.

My Training & Qualifications

Along with daily devotional practise and deep self-study, my work is rooted in the wisdom and teaching of Elders with their own lineages. This ensures I can be accountable to the needs of real people and communities as I continue to expand, explore, and deepen my work.

Among my teachers, I include literary companions such as: Silvia Federici, bell hooks, adriene mari brown, Patricia Hill Collins, Sara Ahmed, Audre Lorde, Tyson Yunkaporta, Robin Wall-Kimmerer, Sharon Salzburg, Demetra George, Peter Levine, Marion Woodman, Thomas Moore, James Hillman, and Carl Jung.

A brief summary of some of the training I have received follows. The genre of somatics and embodiment transcends these categories and has been woven throughout the different avenues of study I have pursued.

Psychology, Depth Psychology & Transpersonal Psychotherapeutics

I completed my First Class Psychology BSc. (Hons) degree at the University of Birmingham in 2015.

I worked in academia at the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience for three years, until the pandemic.

I have received training from prestigious integrative transpersonal and mindfulness-based psychotherapy schools, including Karuna Institute, Psychosynthesis Trust, and Re-Vision.

Ancestral Healing, Nature Reverence, Decolonisation, Anti-Racism, & Shamanic Practice

Most recently:

Previous teachers have included: Jayasree Kalathil, Suzi Steer of Tree Sisters, and YeYe Luisah Teish.

Astrology & Witchcraft

My learning in this realm has primarily been through deep self-study and daily devotional practise of Western Esotericism, European folk tradition, and Spiritism. Particular areas of interest have included ancient Hellenistic astrology, Hekatean witchcraft, herbal magic, the Moon, Womb-centric traditions, and chaos magick. This has been supported by training at Nightlight Astrology and The Sacred Trust.
